36" German c1850 TAUFLING BABY Papier-Mache, Glass Eyes click picture to enlarge click picture to enlarge 36" German c1850 TAUFLING BABY Papier-Mache, Glass Eyes Rare Large Size, also called Motschman Baby Usually rare and hard-to-find, Tauflinge in this larger-than-life 36" size are almost unheard of! This adorable baby/toddler is in excellent condition with original twill-cloth attaching shoulders to arms, chest to waist and hips to legs (for all the jointing, baby is best standing, reclining or laying down, as the joints don't allow sitting). Head, shoulders/chest, hips, lower legs, feet, lower arms and hands are pinky-peach-painted papier-mache with original wax topcoat. Sweet almond-shaped black glass eyes are inset and give baby a bright and pleasant gaze. Eyebrows are feathered pale grey, hair is wisps of palest yellow painted here & there across the head. Very finely molded and detailed, baby's head has a 21" circumference, nice ears and nose, pink closed mouth, double chin and subtly rosy cheeks. Hands and feet are well formed with separate thumbs & toe tips; the underbelly has a chubby crease. This is one of the most amazing baby dolls, for all his size and age. It look like he only has very small areas (average 1-2" area) of professional reinforcing at neck, wrists and ankles, plus the vertical seam around head. The lovely antique baby dress is completely seamstress hand-made with gorgeous embroidered detail at the bodice. A antique petticoat of lace insertion, and pantalets are underneath.
